Holme Hall Golf Club – Ladies Section
LADIES EXCHANGE DAY – TUESDAY 5TH
AUGUST 2008
Lady
Captain Jill Haresign reported an all-round excellent day when
Holme Hall ladies travelled to Hessle Golf Club for their
Centenary Exchange Day on Tuesday 5th August 2008.
Out on the
golf course the ladies found themselves playing an Am-Am
competition with two scores to count on every hole in what can
only be described as drizzly conditions. Surprisingly those
ladies who teed off in the worst of the weather faired much
better.
Ladies
found Hessle Golf course to be in great condition and the food
that was served after the round was excellent. Jill said the
atmosphere in the clubhouse after the competition was wonderful
and it was somewhat of a shame to have to silence this for the
speeches and presentation.
Taking
third place with a score of 70 was Kay Smith, Judy Kelsey, Mary
Metheringham and Margaret Paterson.
Runners Up
on the day with 71 was Irene Glennie, Judith Abernethy, June
Warne and Sheila Houghton.
Winners on
the day, also with a score of 71, but a back 9 of 38 was
Christine Reid, Joan Tong, Patricia Smith and Rosemary Cranidge.
PRESIDENTS WEEKEND – SATURDAY 9TH
AUGUST 2008
Ah the
British weather! Once again the wind blew and the rain came
down on 39 ladies who entered the Presidents Weekend competition
on Saturday 9th August.
Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions, it was agreed to
make this a 10-hole competition, somewhat of a shame, although a
decision that was applauded by those ladies out on the golf
course!!
The
half-way house provisions of Hot Dogs, Plum Bread and Pimm’s was
very well received with Vice President John Ellis reporting that
some ladies had more than their fair share!
A prize was
awarded for Nearest the Pin on the 10th Hole and this
was won by Denise Dewe - 148 cm.
A two’s
sweep was held and not surprisingly there were only two two’s on
this occasion which meant that June Warne and Sue Bassindale
received 18 golf balls each.
The
competition was therefore worked out as 10/18th’s
score with prizes being awarded as follows:-
The
Presidents prize in the Silver Division went to Christine Reid
(left) 52 – 10.5 – 41.5
The
Presidents prize in the Bronze Division was won by Marilynne
Harrison (below) 55 – 13.3 – 41.7

The winner
of the Vice-Presidents Prize in the Silver Division went to Kay
Smith 51 – 8.8 – 42.2
The Vice
Presidents Prize in the Bronze Division was won by Christine
Asquith 58 – 16.1 – 41.9
Ladies took
the opportunity after the competition to thank the President and
Vice President for their hospitality both at the Half-way house
and in the clubhouse.
